Did you know that Summit County has an alerts system?
SC Alert is also used to communicate non-life-safety inbformation, such as planned road closures, school delays/cancellations, community meetings, utility repairs and service interruptions.
Using SC Alert
We deliver SC Alert notifications by phone, email, text and mobile-app alerts. Individuals and businesses may add as many phone numbers, email and text numbers as they choose.
SC Alert is compatible with TDD/TTY devices for those with hearing impairments.
Registering for SC Alert
Registering for SC Alert is quick and easy:
- Visit the Summit County portal to CodeRED to create a managed account and select your Community Groups, including traffic notifications and school groups. Please note that if you sign up for CodeRED emergency notifications outside the Summit County portal, you will not be able to subscribe to these local notification groups.
- Enter addresses, such as your home and work locations, to be notified of emergencies in those areas.
- Add the SC Alert Emergency phone number (866-419-5000) to your contacts as “SC Alert” so that it will display in your caller ID.
- Add the SC Alert General phone number (855-969-4636) to your contacts as “SC Alert” so that it will display in your caller ID.

If you’re currently a CodeRED subscriber who has already registered your mobile phone to get notifications from Summit County, you will continue to receive calls. However, if you download the app, you will also be able to get alerts to your smartphone anywhere in the country, including Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Alaska.
Please note that if you choose to receive weather alerts from the National Weather Service through the app, you will be charged $1 annually.
