Last Summer Hurrahs from Summit & Eagle Counties

School’s around the corner, but there’s still time for one last high-country escape. Whether you call Summit or Eagle County home or you’re visiting from the Front Range, these quick weekend getaways pack maximum fun into just a couple of days. From vibrant festivals, exhilarating trails to tranquil lakes, here’s how to soak up the season before the first bell of the school year rings.

Quick Planning Tips

  • Altitude: Most destinations are between 8,000–11,000 feet. Hydrate, bring layers, and take it easy the first day.

  • Reservations: Festivals, campgrounds, and parking for popular hikes often require advance booking — check links below.

Traffic: Expect I-70 congestion on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings. Leave early to maximize your weekend. CDOT has a wonderful app to check traffic.
